GymTribe vs Hevy and MyFitnessPal: one app instead of two.
Many people log lifts in Hevy and meals in MyFitnessPal. Both are well-known apps that do their own job well. GymTribe puts strength tracking and food logging in one app. This page compares the three using each company's own pages, checked on October 13, 2026.

01 / Who should pick which
Start with what you actually want to track.
- Pick Hevy. if you only want a lifting log, and you like a social feed, leaderboards and sharing workouts with friends.
- Pick MyFitnessPal. if you mainly want to count calories and do not need detailed strength charts.
- Pick GymTribe. if you want food and lifting in one app, or you work with a personal trainer who should see your meals.
Using Hevy and MyFitnessPal together works too. It means two apps, two logs and, if you want the paid features of both, two subscriptions.
02 / Side by side

A dash means the feature was not listed on that app's own pages when we checked, not that it can never exist. GymTribe's free plan shows the last 3 months of your records, charts and muscle distribution; Premium shows your full history. What each GymTribe chart shows is explained in How to track strength progress.
03 / Where the others are stronger
What Hevy and MyFitnessPal do better.
- A lifting community. Hevy has a social feed, leaderboards, athlete profiles and Strava sharing. GymTribe has no social feed.
- Lifting extras. Hevy lists a warm-up set calculator, a plate calculator and RPE on its features page.
- iPhone today. Both apps are on iPhone and Android now. GymTribe is on Android, and the iPhone app is coming soon.
- A long history in food logging. MyFitnessPal has been a calorie counter for many years and is built around its own food database.
04 / Where GymTribe is different
One log for food, training and recovery.
- Food and lifting on one screen. Meals, macros, workouts, sleep, steps, water and weight sit in the same day, so you can see a heavy session next to the protein behind it.
- A morning brief. Each morning GymTribe writes a short summary from your own logs, with a suggested next step. It only works because the data is in one place.
- Free barcode and catalog logging. Logging by food catalog search, barcode or by hand is unlimited on the free plan.
- Your trainer in the same app. A trainer can invite you by link or QR code, see the meals you log by date, set your calorie and macro targets, and assign workouts and meal plans. By default they see your data from the invitation date; you choose whether to share earlier history. See GymTribe for trainers.
05 / Price
What it costs.
GymTribe is free to download and use. The free plan includes food logging by search, barcode or by hand, workouts and routines, PR alerts, and the last 3 months of your records, charts and muscle distribution.
GymTribe Premium is US$59.99 a year, about US$5 a month. It adds estimated 1RM and heaviest-weight charts, your full history, more AI meal analyses and unlimited routines. Google Play shows the price in your currency.
Hevy Pro and MyFitnessPal Premium are separate subscriptions. Their current prices are on their own pages, linked below.
Checked on October 13, 2026 against each company's own pages. Plans and features change, so check each app before you choose. Product names are trademarks of their owners; GymTribe is not affiliated with them.
The short version
One app instead of two.
If you only lift, or only count calories, a single-purpose app may be all you need. If you want food and training in one place, or you train with a coach, GymTribe keeps it in one log and one subscription.
